FAIR-TIME OPPORTUNITIES

Businesses, vendors and exhibitors who need workers at the Clay County Fair may contact the local Iowa Workforce Development office in Spencer. IWD can assist employers with hiring needs and can recruit reliable workers at no cost to the business. It’s a simple process to recruit workers through Iowa Workforce Development. It is beneficial to submit information well in advance as recruitment starts during the summer months. Iowa Workforce Development also provides information about Iowa’s Child Labor Laws and Compliance regulations effective when hiring youth ages 14-17. For more information, call 712.262.1971 x 123.

Workers and job seekers who want employment with a vendor at the Clay County Fair may sign up at the Iowa Workforce Development office, 217 W. Fifth St., Spencer, either in person or by calling 712-262-1971 x 123. Hours for the sign up are 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Openings may exist for a variety of jobs, including food service, concessions, booth sales, demonstrations, amusement ride operation, restroom cleaning, display setup & teardown, etc. Salaries may not be covered under minimum wage laws, and will vary with different vendors.

Full-time and part-time work is available on day or evening shifts. Applicants should expect to work long hours and may be standing on their feet for 8-10 hours per day in non-airconditioned nor heated facilities, or may work at outdoor exhibits.

Work will be available outside of school hours, and students are encouraged to sign-up. Employers must comply with federal & state labor laws regarding the hiring of youth ages 14 through 17.

A temporary Workforce Center will open the Wednesday preceding the Fair on the fairgrounds. That office is located at the north end of the Varied Industries Building, and the phone number during the fair is 712-262-5521. The temporary office will be open through the duration of the fair. Both the temporary and regular offices are open to both applicants and employers at no fees.
