Special Day highlights for the 2023 Clay County Fair
Spencer, Iowa —There is something for everyone at the 2023 Clay County Fair powered by SMU, September 9-17.
“Each day the Fair is packed full of activities for Fairgoers of all ages,” said Fair Manager Jerome Hertel. “However, some activities are scheduled only on a special day, which makes each day at the Fair a very unique experience.”
Saturday, Sept. 9 is Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative Day. Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative will sponsor a display in Central Park, where fairgoers can get an up close look at a large basket truck and meet their local co-op representatives. In addition, Dish is sponsoring the Iowa / Iowa State Game Day; make sure to tune in to see who takes the Cy-Hawk trophy.
Sunday, Sept. 10 is Wild Rose Casino Day.
Monday, Sept. 11 is Veteran’s Appreciation Day. Activities include a parade at 10:00am and a special program at 11:00am. Glenn Henricksen & Friends will take the stage at 2:00pm in the Events Center Ballroom with a special Salute to Veterans Show. All veterans and active duty military will receive free admission to the Fair, as a thank you for their service to our Nation.
On Tuesday, Sept. 12, fairgoers 65 and older can enjoy $8.00 admission on Senior Day. Special activities include a parade of antique tractors.
Also on Tuesday, FFA Day is back at the Fair. Local FFA students can spend a day at the Fair as part of this leadership event. Students will have the opportunity to visit a college fair featuring thirteen colleges, listen to National Officer, Karstyn Cantrell, speak and participate in a leadership workshop.
Wednesday, Sept. 13 is Disability Awareness Day sponsored by Superior Sleep, BathFitter, Agriland, and Signature Signs. The Fair welcomes people with disabilities from throughout the region with events planned for them thanks to the Pony Express Riders, GoldStar Amusements, and Shriners. Persons who have pre-registered for the day can participate in carnival rides and a special luncheon voucher.
The Iowa Corn Growers Association celebrates Iowa Corn Day on Thursday, Sept. 14 with exhibits and presentations in Central Park showcasing the importance of this crop in Iowa and beyond.
Friday, Sept. 15 is Y100 Kids Day and Iowa Dairy Day. Kids 12 and under are admitted free all day (and every day of the Fair) and can buy a special all-day wristband for unlimited rides on the GoldStar Amusements Midway for Friday with the Midway opening at 10:00 AM. Wristbands are available online at claycountyfair.com, at the Events Center Box Office, by phone at 515-244-2771, or at 12 different Godfather’s Pizza locations in Iowa and Minnesota. Also on Friday is Iowa Dairy Day sponsored by the Western Iowa Dairy Alliance. Fairgoers will learn about the importance of the dairy industry in Iowa through different displays and activities at Central Park.
Iowa Lakes Community College and ISU Extension Clay County present Science Saturday on Saturday, Sept. 16. All ages can participate in the hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities and experiments in various locations throughout the Fair.
