Evening of great excitement as top vocalists showcase the new stage at the 2008 Clay County Fair
SPENCER, IOWA- The 2008 Clay County Fair will start with a bang when country music legend, Trisha Yearwood, performs on Saturday, September 6. Vocal group, Rockapella, will open the Saturday night show at 7:30 p.m.
Yearwood’s career took off fast when her single “She’s in Love with the Boy”, rocketed to number one on Billboard’s “Hot Country Songs” chart in the spring of 1991. Three more top-ten singles were fostered from the album, “Like We Never Had a Broken Heart”, “That’s What I Like About You” and “The Woman Before Me”. Since then, 38 of Yearwood’s singles have graced the country Billboard charts, nine reaching number one. Four of her ten studio albums have been certified Gold, four albums Platinum, one Double Platinum and another Quadruple Platinum.
As a woman of many professional accomplishments, Yearwood has experienced some of the highest honors in country music. Continued release of chart-topping hits earned the country star three Grammy awards, two Country Music Association awards and two Academy of Country Music Awards. Additionally in 1999, Yearwood was inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
This year will mark the 18th anniversary since Yearwood and her husband, Garth Brooks, both appeared at the Clay County Fair in 1991. She will be dedicating the new Grandstand stage before her performance.
The internationally known “A cappella” group, Rockapella, will open for Yearwood with their songs of vocal collaboration. The group is known for the theme song to the television show “Where in the World is Carmen San Diego?”. They have also been featured in Folgers Coffee commercials where they sang and appeared on camera. Rockapella travels worldwide performing their hit songs and covering popular pop tunes.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show will be $27 reserved Grandstand seating and $22 reserved annex seating.
The 2008 Clay County Fair will run Saturday, September 6 through Sunday, September 14. The first day for postmarks on mail-orders for Grandstand event tickets will be June 23. Orders will be taken by phone beginning July 14. July 21 is the first day the box office will be open on the fairgrounds
