Rock 'N' Roll super group The Diamonds & special guests The Fabulous Traidmarx to appear at the 2008 Clay County Fair
SPENCER, IOWA- Rock 'N' Roll’s Vocal Group Hall-of-Famers, The Diamonds, are set to perform in front of the Clay County Fair Grandstand at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9. Joining The Diamonds for the 2 and 7:30 p.m. shows, will be Iowa Rock’ N Roll Music Association Hall-of-Famers, The Fabulous Traidmarx.
Formed in the mid-50’s, the Toronto, Canada natives known as The Diamonds, have been described as the true sound of doo-wop. The Diamonds released their first hit song entitled, “Why Do Fools Fall In Love”in 1956. In 1957, the group’s career was taken to the next level when they released “Little Darlin’”, the hit song that spent eight weeks at number two on the Billboard charts. Keeping the momentum, the release of “The Stroll” followed in 1958. The song made it to number four on the Billboard charts and remained on the Top 40 list for 14 weeks.
In 2004, The Diamonds were recognized with an induction into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. In 2006 they were inducted into The Doo-Wop Hall of Fame.
Local favorites, The Fabulous Traidmarx, will appear in the Grandstand with The Diamonds. Founded in 1967, the Traidmarx started out of a machine shop on a farm located near Dickens, Iowa. As years passed and their fan base expanded, the group started doing regional shows and appeared regularly in area cities. In 2001 they were inducted into the Iowa Rock 'N' Roll Music Association’s Hall of Fame.
Tickets for the Tuesday, September 9th shows at 2 and 7:30 p.m. will be $15 general admission seating.
The 2008 Clay County Fair will run Saturday, September 6 through Sunday, September 14. The first day for postmarks on mail-orders for Grandstand event tickets will be June 23. Orders will be taken by phone beginning July 14. July 21 is the first day the box office will be open on the fairgrounds.
