Spencer, Iowa – Fairgoers are encouraged to have “Bushels of Fun” competing at the 2013 Clay County Fair, September 7-15.
No matter where you live, everyone is eligible to compete for more than $100,000 in awards, premiums, ribbons, and trophies. Hundreds of categories and competition are available to enter at the Fair this year with no entry fee.
“Unfortunately, I think it is a secret that entering at the Clay County Fair is open to the world,” said CCF Manager Jeremy Parsons. “Anyone can showcase their best at ‘The World’s Greatest County Fair.’ You don’t have to be a resident of Clay County.”
Veteran and novice exhibitors alike should access exhibitor handbook (formerly known as premium books) for competition details, including important dates, guidelines, a list of classes and categories of competition. All handbooks also include entry blanks. Exhibitors can access the handbooks at www.claycountyfair.com or pick up copies at the CCF Administration Building.
“Due to increased costs, this year we are not printing and mailing the books as we have in the past,” Parsons said. “The handbooks are available online, or for those exhibitors without internet access, they can call or stop by the office and we will be happy to get them one.”
Seven livestock and seven non-livestock departments allow everyone to showcase their talents, hobbies, and passions. Due to different deadlines and requirements in each department, exhibitors are encouraged to access the exhibitor handbooks for more information.
Competition at the Clay County Fair is always growing and evolving. Livestock competition features one new sheep breed and three new cattle breeds in 2013. There are also many new lots and classes in the canned goods, oven products, textiles, arts and crafts, photography, and agriculture departments as well.
